Historically Speaking: A Lasting Effect: Lessons from Maryland’s Early Educational History

About this event

A Lasting Effect: Lessons from Maryland’s Early Educational History

Ms. Jennifer Brown, adjunct instructor of Political Science at Harford Community College and member of Maryland Family Institute Academic Advisory Board, will speak on an often overlooked topic: education in early Maryland and its impact to today.

St. Mary's County worked to establish a free school system early on.  Ms. Brown will dig into the educational system (most of which existed in southern Maryland and around the Chesapeake) further.  She will look at how the shifting political/religious climate impacted education and how Maryland's approach to education compared to neighboring states at the founding period.

Ms. Brown will also analyze how this early period impacts Maryland education today and why history remains an important element for sound education policy making.

Please join us for what will surely be a revealing and interesting conversation.
