A History of the 1926 and 2002 La Plata Tornadoes
About this event
On November 9, 1926, an estimated F-4 tornado tore through the town of La Plata, MD, killing at least thirteen
children and two adults. On April 28, 2002, an F-4 tornado came through the town a second time, following nearly the same path as the first.
Marking the 100 Anniversary of the 1926 La Plata Tornado, local historians Anthony Puzzilla and Steuart Bowling share their insights into the histories, tragedies, and hopes of a town in the unlikely path of natural disaster.
During the event, Puzzilla and Bowling will sign copies of their book, Thirteen White Roses: The Tornado of November 9, 1926.
The event is open to the public without charge.
