Help Us Raise $25,000 to Support an Experienced Archivist
Like Carol Moody before her, our new Archivist, Elizabeth Mathews, oversees a growing collection of more than 300,000 documents, photographs, maps, and computer records. Collectively, they are the history of St. Mary's County.
Beginning where Carol left off prior to retirement, Elizabeth is working to make more content available at Tudor Hall and through our website. She is creating opportunities to collaborate with state and national organizations, planning exhibits, and making herself available for speaking engagements in the community.
Without an Archivist, the Historical Society's digitization project, support of member research, and the continued preservation of the County's history will be compromised.
We also know that experienced Archivists are in demand in history-rich Maryland. Thus, in keeping with our commitment to protect, preserve, and make accessible the rich history of this County, the Board of Directors decided in July to transition the Archivist position from volunteer to paid staff.
But to fund an Archivist, we need you.
Our Goal is $25,000 - an amount that will compensate our Archivist for about eighteen months. Your help in reaching and exceeding that goal will allow us to afford an Archivist into the future.
It is an ambitious goal, yes. But as we did not hold an Annual Appeal in 2022, we hope you can find your way to being doubly generous this year.
Within a few days, you will receive a letter from our President, Admiral Tim Heely (USN, Ret.) explaining the importance of this year's Appeal. With his letter is a donation card plus a return envelope for your use.
But don't wait for Admiral Heely's letter. Donate now by clicking on this link or scanning this QR Code with your smartphone.

Either way, please help us keep our County's history alive and accessible through a generous contribution the to the 2023 Annual Appeal
