JANUARY 2026
HAPPY NEW YEAR

The View from the Loggia
Peter LaPorte, Executive Director

Your Historical Society Turns Seventy-Five!

It's a New Year and a special one at that!

2026 marks the seventy-five years since a group of friends came together in October 1951 for one purpose: to preserve the stories of the people and events that made St. Mary's County unique.

Throughout 2026, we will share stories from our past on social media, highlighting the people pioneered the development of the Historical Society. The Chronicles of St. Mary's will contain landmark or memorable articles from past issues and we're planning to assemble the best of the best from the Chronicles into a book.

Come September, we will hold a Celebration to commemorate not just our
75th Anniversary but the history and culture of this wonderful County. We've lined-up a nationally-known figure as the keynote speaker as well as having several other things in store.

We're not letting all the cats out of the bag just yet. More will come your way through Tudor Hall Times and at the Spring Dinner on May 8th. And, you should check our Facebook Page from time to time -- lots of goodies are coming to you there!

Until then,
we'll say only that 2026 couldn't be a better time to be a member of the St. Mary's County Historical Society. If you're not a member, come on -- join us!

The 2025 Annual Appeal Ends January 30

Abundant thanks to all who have contributed to 2025 Annual Appeal. You have favored us with just over $38,000 of support thus far. Thank you!

If you haven't yet donated, please consider doing so. We needn't repeat how vitally important your generosity is
to continuing the operations of the Historical Society. Without your financial support, the unique and important role we play in preserving and inspiring curiosity about the County's past would be greatly diminished.

You will find a donation card at the bottom of this newsletter to download, print, and mail. Or, if you prefer, just click right here  to go directly to the 2025 Annual Appeal donation page.

We appreciate youPlease and thank you!

Please don't forget that we're in the midst of our Winter siesta. Though absent, we check email and, periodically, voice mail. If you have a special request, email is the best option. We will do what we can to help. But, please be patient if we don't get back to you right away.

We reopen Wednesday, February 18th.
